On the 23rd of March, a gift of 20,000 masks from San Diego’s friendship city, the City of Huzhou, were presented to representatives of the Salvation Army and Interfaith Community Services.
In attendance were:
- Dr. Allen Chan, President of US-China Education and Economic Development Collaboratives and Charter President of San Diego United Lions Club.
- Mr. Stanley Chen Rong Ping 主任 from the City of Huzhou.
- Attorney Bruce Abrams, former Chairman of SD International Affair’s Board.
- Ms. Kaye Cardall, Centre City Director of The Salvation Army California South Division, Center City Corp.
- Ms. Jojo Gozalo, Case Manager of Interfaith Community Services, Escondido.
- Mike Brandenburg, President of the San Diego United Lions Club.
- Donna Lee, Secretary of the San Diego United Lions Club.
Background. Mr. Abrams, Mr. Chen and Dr. Allen Chan are the facilitators of the Friendship City designation for the City of San Diego and the City of Huzhou in Zhejiang Province, China. Huzhou is a beautiful, ancient, and vibrant city near Shanghai, very much like our San Diego.
Late last year, Mr. Chen’s family and the Huzhou Government donating 20 thousand masks to the City of San Diego, helping to combat the devastating Covid-19 pandemic.
The San Diego United Lions Club organized the presentation. They have been instrumental in helping the underprivileged people during this pandemic in San Diego through the nonprofit organizations of SD Salvation Army and Interfaith Community Services. SD United Lions & Leos Clubs have been their long-time partners in providing services to the community.
